Pro-Israel MP Ivan Lewis appointed to Middle East team at Foreign Office

The Prime Minster’s Cabinet reshuffle and announcement of a new team in the Foreign Office will do little to abate criticism of his government, particularly in respect of at least one of his new appointments.

Ivan Lewis MP has joined the Foreign Office as Minister of State with responsibility for the Middle East.

Mr Lewis, MP for Bury South, was one of the speakers at a pro-Israel rally called by the Board of Deputies of British Jews in January 2009, at the time of Israel’s savage bombardment of Gaza.

Mr Lewis, speaking at the Manchester rally said:

There is tragedy and trauma on both sides. It is essential that we send a clear and responsible message from the great city of Manchester that this community stands shoulder to shoulder with Israel.”

One wonders what level of objectivity the new Minister is likely to bring to his post?

In the US, one of Obama’s chief appointments to the directorship of the National Intelligence Council, Chas Freeman, was forced to withdraw when the Israel lobby in America campaigned against him for his critical views of Israel’s policies towards Palestinians.

The appointment of Ivan Lewis would suggest that there’s likely to be little objectivity on either side of the Atlantic when it comes to Israel and the Middle East.

You mean the mythical Muslim pressure group. The Muslim Pressure group who jumped on the MP Expenses scandal and had Mike Gapes Israeli Lobbist over his £100,000 second home allowance (used as hotel bookings) even though he lives in zone 3 and most other inner borough mps had no such expenses.
Did you see the Muslim masses baying for blood?
One of the successful strategies of todays politics is to have things in place for eventualities so that they new situations can be exploited (for want of a better word). We saw it in the neo con implementation of private schooling after huricane katrina (naomi kleins book). We see it every day in the UK governments erosion of civil liberties whenever their is an event that will erode public opposition.

Someday we will have real muslim leaders. Someday we will raise them , not as public school system cogs, but people who reflect an innate ability to learn, capability to publicly express yourself and to follow your desires with such convection that people follow you . Gandhi was never a leader, until he had a cause. And it was that cause that defined his leadership

oh back to dodgy politicians. Lee Scott ex director of the jewish charity that promotes connections with the zionist state . The Telegraph nominated him as a saint of mp's expenses. Hmmmm. Has anyone seen his expenses
