Following on from the arson attack on the Islamic Centre in Luton, comes news that Greenwich Islamic Centre (pictured) in Plumstead was firebombed twice this past week.

The cause of the fire at the GIS on Wednesday (17th June) is currently under investigation although the caretaker suggests that a chain locking the heavy metal gates of the mosque had been cut.

It is the second petrol bomb attack on the Centre in one week.

Dr Tariq Abbasi, the Centre’s Director, said: "This is as bad as it can get. Nobody deserves this. Seeing burnt copies of the Koran, the emotional impact has been devastating.

"Monetary loss is one thing, the building can be re-built, but the emotional scars can last for years.

"The Muslim community see this as a racist attack on a place of worship.”

He added that a racist minority may have been encouraged after BNP members won two seats in the European elections on June 4th.

Let’s hope this isn’t a sign of things to come.

Reading this story brought a tear to the eye, all places of worship where God is remembered are sacred in Islam, a hadith of the Prophet (pbuh) states that Allah (swt) percieves the earth in the manner that we view a clear night filled with stars, the stars on the earth are the Houses of Allah within which his Oneness is proclaimed. May Allah (swt) make it easy on our community
