ENGAGE congratulates the Muslim Council of Britain for pursuing its libel case against the BBC and securing a full apology today in open court together with £45,000 in damages.

The BBC broadcast slanderous comments by the Daily Telegraph columnist Charles Moore on its Question Time programme last March which we commented upon at the time.

Speaking on the outcome of the libel case, Dr Abdul Bari said:

"As the MCB and I had made clear even before the Question Time broadcast, we do not support attacks on British soldiers anywhere in the world. We are deeply saddened by the senseless loss of lives both amongst UK soldiers and the many thousands of civilians in both Iraq and Afghanistan. We are therefore pleased that the BBC has today set the record straight.

A link to the statement in open Court has also been published on the BBC's website. You can read it here.

Update: A statement from Dr Abdul Bari's lawyers, Carter Ruck, can be read here.

I think its time Ms Syeeda Warsi the Muslim organisation critic who opinionates that is praiseworthy to join political groups that represent an 'elected dictatorship' such as the Conservative Party but it is disgraceful for Mulsims to join Muslim political lobby groups. The things she said on BBC Question Time that night alongside Charles Moore were disgraceful and an affront to the freedom of expression and thought that every British Muslim has just as much right to.

This is an excellent example of how if Muslims are organised and think strategically understanding the legal complaints structure that they can defeat pathetic journalism often fueled by want to sell papers!
