The BBC covers the food bank initiative set up by the Discover Islam public information centre in Luton to help local families struggling to make ends meet. |
The Centre, in co-operation with Age Concern, has collected over 5000 items of foodstuffs to distribute bags in the local community and help feed a family for a week.
With much of the attention Luton has attracted in recent years being of a negative variety, the subject of which was explored in two documentaries (here and here), it’s good to see Muslims counter the abrasive and provocative actions of fringe activists, both the English Defence League and Muslims Against Crusades, to project a positive representation of the town’s Muslims.
Watch the brief BBC report here.
If you would like to contribute to the Centre’s initiative, you can find out how here.
